Montclair Community members gathered Thursday for Uptown Montclair’s annual tree lighting on the lawn of St. James Episcopal Church of Upper Montclair.

The event included performances by The Passing Notes, the St. James Trumpet Trio and the Beyond The Boogie Dance Company. It was sponsored by Cornerstone Montclair, which provides work and social opportunities for individuals of all abilities.

Friday, celebrations will continue in Montclair with the township’s own holiday tree lighting, at 6 p.m. on Church Street Plaza. Church Street between Bloomfield Avenue and South Park Street will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 4 p.m. There will be appearances by the Montclair Community Band, Santa and Mrs. Claus, the Toy Soldier, and snow and gingerbread persons. There will also be a giant snow globe, a Candy Lane inflatable, and kids activities. Letters to Santa can be mailed to 205 Claremont Ave., Montclair, NJ 07042 — or dropped off at the recreation office at the same address — until Dec. 15.
