The Red Kettle Campaign which has a goal of $79,600 reached 32 percent on Dec. 11. The campaign which runs through Dec. 24 is used to help The Salvation Army fund programs in Marshalltown, such as rent and utility assistance, food pantry and youth programming, throughout the year. The overall holiday goal of $217,700 has reached 35 percent.
Capt. Pam Kasten, the corps officer for The Salvation Army of Marshall County, continues to be concerned the Red Kettle Campaign goal will not be met this year. Kasten states she believes the lack of bell ringer coverage has been the reason for the lag in donations this year. As a challenge, she has agreed to ring for 12 hours on Dec. 22 at Hy-Vee beginning at 7 a.m. Throughout the day Kasten is hoping to have visitors to help her ring and to generate excitement in an effort to reach the goal.
The Salvation Army is still looking for volunteer bell ringers to fill the remaining days. People can sign up to volunteer to ring the bell at the iconic red kettle throughout Marshalltown by visiting RegisterToRing.com. Those unable to visit RegisterToRing.com can call Kasten at The Salvation Army to schedule a time at 641-753-5236.
