Ten 24 Hour Fitness gyms across the Bay Area are closing permanently, partly as a result of the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.

The locations are:

Alamo Express, Alamo
Alemany Sport, San Francisco
Berkeley Solano Avenue FitLite, Berkeley
Capitol & McKee, San Jose
Fremont Sport, Fremont
Market Street, San Francisco
Milpitas Active, Milpitas
Noe Valley FitLite, San Francisco
North Point, San Francisco
Walnut Creek Ygnacio Center, Walnut Creek

"We’ve looked hard at how we can best serve our members, and have refocused our resources where we believe they can do the most good," the company wrote in a statement. "Unfortunately, this has meant closing some locations and saying good bye to some valued team members, whom we will dearly miss."

The fitness chain was already in dire straits before shelter-in-place orders. According to Bloomberg, the San Ramon-headquartered company has $1.3 billion in debt since their leveraged buyout in 2014 and is weighing its bankruptcy options.
