As employers look for ways to keep the workplace safe, many are exploring the use of ultraviolet light to help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus and give their employees peace of mind as they return to work.

“Ultraviolet light has been effective against other viruses including SARS and Ebola in the past, and is currently used in many health care settings,” said Eric Hansel, President of Expert Lighting Group. “Given the challenges presented by COVID-19, it’s an emerging option many employers are going to use to eliminate the virus from their work spaces and protect their business and employees from future airborne transmissions.”

Ultraviolet rays have been used for decades to kill microbes, including viruses and bacteria. It is a proven and effective tool used in hospitals and operating rooms.

Ultraviolet light offers many advantages – it can be used to sanitize large facilities quickly, including hotels, airports, schools, commercial office buildings and fitness centers.

The light can be particularly effective for facilities where large groups of people congregate indoors.

“If you have a large facility such as a gym or commercial office building, it’s expensive and time-consuming to clean it repeatedly throughout the day, every day. That’s where ultraviolet lighting can save so much time and expense,” Hansel said.

Ultraviolet lighting can be integrated throughout facilities in conference rooms, meeting areas, locker rooms, personal office and restrooms. They retrofit with ease, providing a cost-effective, chemical-free solution to treating the air.

“Lighting systems can be designed, implemented and retrofitted as part of your overall strategy to protect employees, and increase the effectiveness of social distancing measures and personal protective equipment,” Hansel said.

A wide variety of ultraviolet light products exist from lights that can be installed to supplement existing HVAC systems to smaller mobile devices that can be moved between spaces to clean them as needed.

“Many facilities are going to find that they can retrofit their HVAC systems and install ultraviolet lights that help purify the air,” Hansel said. “And it will actually help improve the efficiency and longevity of the entire HVAC system by preventing build up on their heating and cooling units.”

Ultraviolet products flooding market, you cannot afford to get it wrong

Given the urgency to provide sanitary working spaces amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the market is being flooded with ultraviolet lighting products in a similar fashion as when the energy efficiency of LED technology became widely known.

“We saw the same thing with LED lights a few years ago, suppliers were offering all kinds of products and some were phenomenal, but others just didn’t deliver or had unbelievable mark-ups,” said Hansel. “Expert Lighting Group cuts through that for you. We know the lighting industry, how the technology works and can help you vet these products. You cannot afford to get your lighting system wrong. It’s too costly and it impacts every inch of your building and every person in it.”

The advantage provided by Expert Lighting Group is it serves as a client advocate helping business owners sort through the myriad of products available and find ones that work for them based on their existing workspaces.

“The first thing we do is come out and study your facility. Then we create a customized, turnkey lighting solution complete with financing options,” said Hansel. “We aren’t a supplier but a client advocate. We are only interested in helping you select products that fit a strategy for your facility and its unique needs.”

Expert Lighting Group was established in 2014 to help clients maximize energy savings, remove maintenance costs, assist with all qualifying incentives, complete project management, and handle all on-going warranty claims after project completion.
