SPRINGFIELD (WREX) — Illinois' new COVID-19 cases reported Wednesday is the highest since May 24, according to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
On Wednesday, the state reported 2,295 cases over the past 24 hours, the highest since May 24, when the state reported 2,508 cases over 24 hours. The state reports a total of 211,889 positive cases since the start of the pandemic.
Twenty-five people have died of COVID-19 in Illinois over the past 24 hours. Deaths in the state have remained somewhat steady since June. A total of 7,806 Illinoisans have died from the virus.
The state reported more than 50,000 COVID-19 tests taken over the past 24 hours, totaling more than 3.4 million since the start of the pandemic.
