Redfield, N.Y. — Search and rescue crews have spent the last five hours looking for a missing person in the Salmon River Reservoir, Oswego County 911 dispatchers said Sunday night.

Someone called 911 at 6:35 p.m. to report a person missing in the Salmon River Reservoir, a man-made lake also known as the Redfield Reservoir near the hamlet of Redfield, dispatchers said.

State police, Oswego County Pioneer Search and Rescue Team, and Onondaga County’s Air 1 helicopter joined in the search. E-911 dispatchers said they thought the missing person was a man, but they didn’t have any additional information. State police could not be reached for comment Sunday night.

The search was continuing at 11:45 p.m., more than five hours after the search began, 911 dispatchers said. It was not immediately clear how long the person was missing before someone called 911 from 4776 county Route 17 in Redfield, dispatchers said. Search and rescue crews are checking the water, shore and surrounding areas, dispatchers said.

Check back Monday for updates.
