GENESEE COUNTY, MI — If you’re interested in working in an environment where you’ll likely hear shrill screams produced from children and adults from the exhilaration of a ride, and be surrounded by sweet and salty fair food and games, here’s an opportunity for you.
The Genesee County Fair is seeking to hire workers to fill shifts from 9 a.m. to noon and 2-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Pay for workers starts at $12 per hour, and a $100 sign-on bonus will be offered, according to a Genesee County Fair flyer.
To get the full bonus, new hires will have to stay on for a certain amount of time.
Twenty-five dollars will be payable at the end of the first week of employment, another $25 will be payable at the end of the second week of employment, and $50 will be payable at the end of the third week of employment.
Christian Miller, executive director for the fair, told MLive-The Flint Journal that the goal is to hire at least 10 people for labor positions. Once hired, the workers will be needed for the set up of the event, the duration of the event and after.
“They need to be able to lift 50 pounds,” Miller said.
New hires would begin work on Aug. 16 and work through Sept. 2, Miller added.
The fair, located at 6130 E. Mount Morris Road in Genesee Township, takes place from Aug. 23-29.
The fair is scheduled to offer a plethora of events and entertainment with musical acts including Travis Tritt, Audrey Ray and others, a monster truck show, Figure 8 Derby, truck and tractor pull and more.
Each year, thousands travel across mid-Michigan to attend the festival, but plans for last year’s event were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Genesee County Fair is produced by the Genesee County Agricultural Society, a non-profit organization, comprised of members of the community.
The mission of the Genesee County Agricultural Society is to provide fun, safe, accessible activities, including “The Genesee County Fair,” that promote and educate the community in agriculture, the arts and sciences, according to the fair’s website.
