QUINCY (WGEM) -- A doctor from Blessing Hospital gave back to the community Friday through a 24-hour marathon that included service projects built into the race.
Dr. Darin Thomas gathered some of his colleagues, family and friends and started the second annual World's Hardest Race.
The marathon started at 5 p.m. Friday, and was set to last until 5 p.m. Saturday, a whole 24 hours.
At the top of every hour, Thomas said the group runs a mile to the next organization, does a service project, and then repeats the cycle.
"We just love the idea that you're never too busy to help somebody out, and so, we kind of drive the message home by saying, not even during a race," Thomas said.
"So, we put on triathlons, 5Ks, marathons, where we are doing service during the race to try to send the whole message that we are all busy, but we can always focus on each other and our community."
Thomas said he hopes by next year the pandemic will have calmed down so more people can get involved.
