The annual Walk for Light, a comprehensive campus safety check led by the UMass Amherst Police Department in which students, staff and faculty spread across campus to identify and report safety-related issues, will take place Tuesday, Nov. 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m. outside the Student Union main entrance (west side).
The Walk for Light is an opportunity for the campus community to work together to identify safety-related issues on campus and document those concerns for repair or other appropriate follow-up. These observations may include identifying areas of concern due to poor or broken lighting, overgrown trees or bushes that reduce lighting, broken railings or uneven steps, or other safety-related issues. A final report is then compiled and sent to the appropriate UMass department(s) for repair.
The event will finish at Dickinson Hall, where we pizza and drinks will available. The rain date is the following Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m., same location.
Though most of the Walk for Light event is outside, participants should have a mask for when the walk leads them inside.
